Matthew's Music Mania! |
The amount of practice, dedication and love that 9 year old Matthew puts into his piano practice would put to shame even a university level conservatory graduate. Even early on, Matthew has shown an affinity for music. His mom can remember him singing along with all of the Barney songs as a baby. His parents were not so sure to start him in piano lessons, because they were aware of the great commitment it takes from both student and parent, but “surprisingly, he feels passionate about his music class AND his practice” says his mom.Matthew bonds well with his teacher (who is also named Matthew) and his teacher has nothing but rave reviews for his most naturally adept of students. Some of Matthew’s favorite songs most recently have been “Allegro” by Shinichi Suzuki, which he likes because it is fast paced and happy, "Mussette", and “Long, Long Ago” by T. H. Bayly, which he likes because it has a soft melody and “calms me down when I play” he says. Above all, he enjoys showing off his hard work at one of Forte Music School’s recitals. At first, he was really nervous about them. He asked our director, Eric, what would happen if he played a wrong note. Would he get booed off the stage? Eric just laughed and said that music is fun and everyone just wants to be entertained. They’re all on your side. He found that “releasing to hear”. Matthew's other interests and goals include being a basketball star in the NBA or an Olympic fencer, but he knows that he will always play piano and would love to play in front of a large crowd someday. |
